Inauguration of ACE submarine cable landing station by His Excellency
Professor Alpha Condé, President of Guinea

The official inauguration of Kipé ACE submarine cable landing station by His Excellency Professor Alpha Condé, President of Guinea, was held on Monday June the 2nd.

Before more than 300 guests including many members of the Government, Ambassadors  and members of the diplomatic corps, International Organizations Representatives and GUILAB partners, Authorities’ speeches have expressed Guinean national pride about GUILAB and the historical entry of the country in the era of High Speed Connectivity.

Mr. Mohamed Diallo, the CEO of La Guinéenne de la Large Bande, focused in his address on the mission of GUILAB :
« The 17,000-km submarine cable will connect 21 countries of the African coast to Europe. Through this connection to an international high-speed optical fiber system, Guinea is connected for the first time ever to broadband. Thus, GUILAB’s mission is to provide Telecommunications operators necessary infrastructure and broadband services to offer all users a high-quality connectivity and ensure a positive impact of ICT on economic growth, triggering sustainable social development for the entire nation.

The Minister of State, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and New Information Technology, Mr. Oyé Guilavogui, emphasized on the outstanding public-private partnership that gave birth to GUILAB :

« The terminal station of Conakry, through its management entity La Guinéenne de la Large Bande (GUILAB), is a great example of a public-private partnership. Established thanks to a hopeful and fruitful political will, it paves the way to Guinea for building a true information society.  »

In his conclusion, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Guinea recalled that Guinea connection to Broadband was a strategic objective and welcomed the achievement of the goal. « It goes without saying that the socio-economic potential development of Guinea and growth opportunities offered by ICTs command us to continue unabated, » said His Excellency Professor Alpha Condé.

The ceremony ended with a visit of the landing station by the President who signed the Guest Book and the official GUILAB poster alongside all private shareholders.
